3 Steps To Create Any New Habit You Want

Did you know that creating new habits is simple?

Pick a habit you WANT to create …

  • make it TINY
  • find where it naturally FITS in your day
  • and NURTURE its growth.

It’s that simple. And it’s based on science.

This is the Tiny Habits Method® developed by BJ Fogg, PhD, director of the Behavior Design Lab at Stanford University. And I was fortunate to train with Dr. Fogg as I wrote about in my book.

The first, and dare I say most important, part is to pick a habit you WANT to create.

So where we often get it wrong is by trying to create new habits that we don’t really want.

So many of us get caught in this trap.

Because we think we SHOULD.

As in …

I should exercise more.

I should eat better.

Why?

Because we think there’s something wrong with us.

We should be skinnier.

We should be more productive.

We should be more successful.

We should be _____________.

Newsflash!

There’s nothing wrong with you.

You are fully worthy exactly as you are.

So shed the SHOULDS

And decide what you WANT

Do you want to get in better shape so you can play with your kids without getting out of breath?

Do you want to get your work done faster so you can have more time with your family?

Great – you’ve found something you actually WANT to do.

This is important because it hacks the motivation variable in the new habit-creation equation.

Any new behavior relies on the interplay between motivation, ability, and a prompt or trigger.

Have a new habit you want to create?

I’m going to guide you, step by step.

You’ll see how simple it is to create new behaviors when you use this scientifically proven, highly-effective method.

And then you can apply it again and again

To any other new habit you want to create in your life.

But for today, simply choose a new habit you WANT to create.

Over the next few blog posts, we’ll cover all the steps—everything you need to know and do in order to create that new habit that you desire.
